Maths Angles

Today we are going to start a very interesting topic — Angles!
Angles are all around us — when we open a door, bend our leg, or look at the hands of a clock — there is an angle everywhere!

But what is an angle?
An angle is made when two lines or rays meet at a point.
Just imagine when a corner is formed — that corner is called an angle.

Now we will learn how many types of angles are there, how to identify them, and how to measure them.

And don’t worry — this topic is very easy, very interesting, and you all will really enjoy it!

1. What is an Angle?

When two rays or lines start from the same point and make an opening between them, that opening is called an angle.

Angle = Two lines meet at one point and make a corner.
That corner is called an angle.

The point where the lines meet is called the vertex,
and the lines are called the arms or sides of the angle.

2. Real Life Examples of Angles:

  • Hands of a clock (like at 3 o’clock or 6 o’clock)

  • A door when it is opened

  • The shape of a scissors

  • Your elbow when you bend it

  • Pizza slices

Angles are all around us!

3. Types of Angles:

Let’s learn about the types of angles.

(i) Acute Angle (Small Corner)

  • An angle less than 90°

  • Looks like a small corner

  • Examples: 30°, 60°

  • Like an open book corner

Easy Trick: Cute things are small – Acute Angle is small too!

(ii) Right Angle (Perfect Corner)

  • An angle exactly 90°

  • Looks like an L shape

  • Example: Corner of a notebook or wall

Easy Trick: Right angle is always right – it’s 90°

(iii) Obtuse Angle (Big Corner)

  • An angle more than 90° but less than 180°

  • Looks like a big corner

  • Examples: 120°, 150°

  • Like a door opened wide

Easy Trick: Obtuse = O wow! That’s a big one!

(iv) Straight Angle (Straight Line)

  • An angle exactly 180°

  • Looks like a straight line

  • Like a ruler or a road line

Easy Trick: Straight angle = straight line = 180°

(v) Complete Angle (Full Turn)

  • An angle exactly 360°

  • When a line makes a full round and comes back to the same place

  • Like the hand of a clock going full circle

Easy Trick: Complete angle = full circle = 360°
